{"id":46,"date":"2019-10-20T09:56:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-20T13:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/standardstrack.com\/wordpress\/?p=46"},"modified":"2019-10-20T09:56:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-20T13:56:00","slug":"xml-for-voice-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standardstrack.com\/wordpress\/2019\/10\/20\/xml-for-voice-services\/","title":{"rendered":"XML for Voice Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Presented at the IEEE ComSoc\/Computer Society Boston Chapter Meeting, May 21, 2001<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>XML, XSL, and application servers enable application developers to separate user interface code from application code.\u00a0 For a quality user interaction, the user interface code needs to know at least the broad parameters of the terminal device.\u00a0 For example, the presentation of a web page on a relatively large monitor can be quite different from the presentation of the same data on a WAP browser (wireless phone).\u00a0 Simply mapping a 1600&#215;1200 bit-mapped display to a two line by forty-character display is not feasible.\u00a0 This issue becomes more pronounced when one introduces voice user interfaces into the mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The talk first reviews the application server architecture.\u00a0 A brief introduction to VoiceXML, the DTD of XML for voice user interfaces, follows. The talk will discuss issues with voice user interfaces and why their specification is so different from graphical user interfaces.
